“No More Root Canals & Caps”
Dentists who practice this form of advanced dentistry like to use the scientific term, "Biomimetic dentistry". The name comes from two words: "biology", the science of life or of living things, and "mimic", to copy or imitate. So, "biomimetic" means the treatment of a tooth that allows it to behave like – or mimic – a natural tooth.
Other terms include: "crownless dentistry" or "advanced adhesive dentistry". Whatever it’s called, you may wish to think of it as "Tooth-Conserving Dentistry", for that is the goal and the outcome.
“Biomimetic dentistry” treats weak, fractured, and decayed teeth in a way that keeps them strong and seals them from bacterial invasion. Careful sealing against infection can remove the need for 60% to 90% of the caps and root canals of traditional dentistry.
What's special about biomimetic dentistry?
Instead of simply filling cavities as though they were potholes, biomimetic dentistry keeps the patient's long-term dental health in focus. Biomimetic dentistry makes use of advanced adhesive techniques and properly fashioned onlays. By sealing the tooth against infection, biomimetic dentists make sure they don't make dental problems any more serious than they already are.
